Workshop for Littlies

A gentle, interactive session for younger children. Age-appropriate explanations of what an illustrator does, interactive storytime with Fearless or Marmaduke, role playing with soft toys, and silly drawing games. Lots of fun, laughter and audience participation.

Creating visual narratives

Lights! Camera! ....Pictures?! Sarah will explain the basic principles of creating visual narratives by comparing the illustration process to familiar film-making techniques, and using examples from her own work. This workshop incorporates hands-on, interactive activities designed to get students thinking about how to use visual elements effectively in their own work.

General Talk: Illustrating Picture Books

An overview of what makes picture books special, and how a picture book is created from first idea through to publication. Using her own books as examples, Sarah will give you a behind-the-scenes look into how an illustrator works - sneak a peek at her sketches and original paintings. Easily adapted to suit all age groups, from early primary to tertiary.

 Crazy Characters Workshop

Learn how to draw characters real enough to walk off the page! Sarah will show students how to create expressive animal characters with real personality, and talk about how she creates the characters for her books. Students get creative inventing a pair of animal characters and developing an illustration that shows the relationship between them.
